Emergency Manager 1 Scholarship Application


Purpose

The EM1 Graduates Scholarship Program was established to promote and develop disaster preparedness and resilience by furthering the education of past students studying the field of emergency management, disaster management or a related program.

Who May Apply?

The scholarship is open to Emergency Manager 1 graduates only.

Full-time or part-time (at least 6 credits per semester) students pursuing an associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in emergency management, disaster management or a closely related field.

GENERAL INFORMATION

All applications will be reviewed and scored based on the student’s academic record, recommendations, and essay. The number of awards may vary depending on the number of applications. The scholarship will be granted directly to the student in the amount of $1,000.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

All applications and supporting materials must be received by 5:00 p.m., June 30, 2019. The student is responsible for ensuring the application and all supporting documentation are received by the Scholarship Program by the deadline.

The first step is to complete the application below. Upon submission, you will receive an automatic email confirming your submission. You must reply to that email with your supporting documents

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION INSTRUCTIONS

Official Transcript: The registrar or school official responsible for monitoring student progress (or grades and enrollment) may send the original transcript with official seal. An applicant must provide at least one term of grades in the program of study. NAME THE FILE USING THIS FORMAT: Applicant Last Name_Officlal_Transcript.pdf.

Enrollment Verification: A student enrollment verification must be provided by the registrar or institution official responsible for maintaining enrollment in the program. The verification should indicate whether the student is a full-time or part-time student. This is NOT the transcript. Many registrars have a standard form for this verification. Others send a short letter verifying full-time or part-time enrollment. This form or letter may be given directly to the student to be emailed. NAME THE FILE USING THIS FORMAT: Applicant Last Name_Enrollment_Verification.pdf.

Reference/Recommendation: The applicant must provide one letter of reference from a faculty member in the program in which they are enrolled. Additional references/recommendations are permitted but not required. NAME THIS FILE USING THIS FORMAT: Applicant Last Name_Reference.pdf

Essay: Provide your definition of comprehensive emergency management and discuss why it is an essential function for each community. The committee is looking for concise and descriptive answer. The essay should be between 250-350 words. Use 12-point type and one-inch margins. Please double-space the text. Save the essay files in the following format: Applicant Last Name_Essay.pdf.
